Guide Dogs

A central goal in ELIYA is to enable blind and visually impaired children to be independent and secure. Learning how to use guide dogs in order to increase mobility is important for blind children for a variety of reasons – learning to give as well as to receive and to enjoy the unlimited and therapeutic “love” that these trained canines bestow upon their “masters.”

All these contributes to the child’s self-confidence and strengthens her sensitivity.  In the Guide Dog program, which is held in cooperation with Beit Oved – the Israel Center for Guide Dogs – ELIYA children meet professional trainers and their guide dogs twice monthly for three-hour sessions with parents participating in some of the meetings.
